What is a "Redneck"?

The context
This is another conversation I had while I was on the North West Trip. I can’t really remember where we were but it was after lunch and we were waiting for the rest of our group. I was the only one who wasn’t from the States while we were waiting and talking.

The topic of the conversation
The conversations was about famous comedians in the US. Because I’m not from the US, I just know one guy, called Chris Rock. Everybody agreed that this guy is pretty funny, and because of the reason that he is black but also making fun of black people, it is kind of funny. They told me that there are other people which are good as well, but I didn’t know any of them. One of the guys said that there is a comedian making fun of “Rednecks.” I didn’t know what a “Redneck” is and asked if they could explain that to me.

What I learned
I now know what a “Redneck” is. It is a typical American term used for people who are from a typical region from the USA, but it has also something to do with stereotypes, for example accent, how people look and the social standing. I’m not sure if Australians use this term as well

Reflection
I think it is quite good to know what a “Redneck” is, especially when you are interested in watching this guy making fun of those people. Another point is when someone doesn’t like you and calls you “Redneck” you know what to do ;-)

  1. "redneck" is a term that is not used so much in Australia. It is generally used to describe an unsophisticated person with a limited understanding of the world and who tends to be a racist and religious bigot. KKK members fit the bill. It is a stereotype. As I read you post I very few grammatical errors and I think you are writing quite well.
